I first must apologize that I have not kept everyone updated as promised. The charger to my computer broke last week, and once the battery on my computer drained, I was unable to charge it. But now I have a new charger and am back up and running.
Saturday was Jordon's 11th birthday and WHAT A BIRTHDAY IT WAS! He was excited to receive tickets to the MU vs. KU basketball game, possibly the last MU/KU basketball game played on our court. As if tickets to this game did not make for the best birthday ever, they were suite tickets from the coach and his wife, Pam (which he was overjoyed to meet), and he was able to meet some of his favorite pro-ball players. To top it all off, a friend of ours purchased Jordon anything and everything he wanted to eat at the game. So exciting!!!! People are amazing, kind and so generous. Jordon's birthday is one he will never forget! Oh, and WE WON-what may have been the most exciting game ever!
Sunday we all enjoyed the Superbowl at a friends house and Monday Jordon attended school for a bit before coming home with a massive headache. The nurse came to draw a routine CBC (complete blood count). Monday evening they faxed me the results. His ANC (immune system) was low at 900, but ok, hemoglobin low at 9, and platelets extremely low at 40 (normal 150-400). So I was a bit surprised when his doctor called me Tuesday and said they were scheduling the biopsy for Thursday. I asked about the platelets and she said she would arrange for us to come up today to "tank" him up full of platelets. We arrived at Children's after noon and they immediately got started on giving him platelets. Prior to giving him platelets they did another CBC. Shortly after they started the platelets Jordon started to get hives. I knew this could mean an allergic reaction so I quickly got the nurse. Sure enough, although Jordon has never had a reaction before, he had an allergic reaction to platelets. They stopped the platelets, dosed Jordon up with a lot of Benadryl (which makes him fall asleep in minutes), then proceeded with the platelets again (since they must be given before a biopsy like this).
His CBC came back right before we left and his numbers were improved. His ANC was over 4000 (quite possibly thanks to the Neupogen shots which I have been giving him since January 29th), his platelets were improved at 80 and hemoglobin was the same. They like to see platelets over 100 when doing a surgical procedure, so tomorrow they will redraw (in hopes todays platelet boost was successful) and will keep platelets on hand during the procedure in case they need to give them to him during.
Sometimes I forget how scary all this might be for Jordon. Jordon rarely seems concerned, worried, or overwhelmed by all of this. I think at times I take for granted how incredibly strong Jordon is, emotionally and physically. Sadly for many of these children it becomes routine. Jordon will be placed under anesthesia for at least the 10th time in 6 months, have had his fifth biopsy in 6 months, and when I think about it sounds terrifying. But because of God's grace we are relieved of worry and concern.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
2 Corinthians 12:9.
We would ask that you pray for Jordon's biopsy to go well tomorrow. Prayers that Jordon is cured and that his health will be great for the next 80 years. Prayers that he will soon be on the road to recovery and acting and living like a normal 11 year old boy. Thank you for all the love and prayers.
