There is no place like home

After nearly a week in the hospital...we are home.

When we first arrived at the hospital last week, they weighed Jordon.  Since being diagnosed Jordon lost a few pounds, but when they weighed him this time he was exactly the same weight he was at the time of diagnosis.  In fact, during this stay he ate like a champ!  He ate lots of protein and the doctors were impressed.  Again, the chemo that he received this week tends to make children very sick, but through prayer Jordon has been lifted up and not experienced the typical reactions (vomiting, weight loss, poor appetite).

During Jordon's stay I asked the pediatric therapist to speak to Jordon to make sure he is still coping with everything ok.  While in the hospital it is difficult to get him out of the bed (this could be due to the cruddy feeling he gets from the medication).  She told me they had a good talk and that Jordon understood a lot.  She thought he might get a little homesick while he is there and that we just need to continue to remind him that this is temporary and it is ok to want to be home.  He misses his friends and being involved, however, she thought he was doing amazingly well because he understood so much.

Over the weekend Kenny and Taylor made a visit.  Taylor and I checked out St. Louis and stayed in a hotel, while Kenny and Jordon bonded in the hospital.  I have to say, I received more sleep in the hotel than a usual week in the hospital.

Before we left the hospital this morning, Jordon's nurse practitioner explained to me that 99% of children return within a few days of receiving this treatment.  The chemotherapy that Jordon received is a extremely strong one.  This one is intended to put Jordon into remission, so it has to be tough.  She told me to expect him to nadir (have no immune system) later on this week and to expect him to have a fever because of the chemotherapy. And with a fever we must make a trip to the hospital and if he has no immune system and has a fever it is an automatic hospital admission.  With that being said, since another hospital stay may be in Jordon's future this week, we spent the day at the zoo.  Jordon had a blast!  It was weird being at the zoo without the family but it was also calmer and we got to do everything Jordon wanted to do.  His favorite was petting the stingrays and sharks.  We spent a long time with them.

So for now we are home and ask that you pray Jordon stay healthy this week.  Our next scheduled visit is October 11 for a CT scan.  This scan should tell us whether or not Jordon is in remission.  If Jordon is in remission (prayers that he will be) he will be admitted on October 13 for maintenance.  This consist of chemotherapy similar to that of his first two big chemotherapies including an intrathecal injection.

Praises are that Jordon has remained so strong and done so well with the treatments.  We still ask that you pray for no long term side effects as well.

Below are a few pics from the last week.
