The doctors aren't fully sure as to what was causing a fever. They said it was possible he had an upper respiratory infection (viral) and that all of his cultures came back negative. When the radiologist read the x-ray films they said that they did not see any indication of pneumonia on the films and again it was possibly due to a respiratory infection since he had a cough, congestion, headache and fever.
Since he has been here he has been on iv Cefepime (a powerful and broad spectrum antibiotic) three times a day. And since he has been here his temperature has been in the normal range. So I was curious as to why if he had just a virus the antibiotics seem to be working in that he no longer has a temperature. They assured me that it was just a "coincidence". Jordon has also been experiencing night sweats, which also concern me, but the doctors want to see if the antibiotic is the cause or if it is possible the prednisone is exiting his body.
I was able to obtain a copy of the radiologist's reading and they indicated that there was a slight increase in tumor size. I questioned and voiced my concerns to the oncologist. She wants Jordon to continue with the final treatment (Jan. 24) and then we will see what the PET scan reveals. My other concern is that this last treatment will benefit Jordon none and the more chemo of any type that Jordon receives, the greater chance he has of developing the long term effects of that chemo (some long term side effects are heart failure, leukemia, neurological effects, and other organ failure). I would love to spare all the possible long term effects, but also know that most are rare and know that most of the chemo has worked in saving his life-today. She wants to give Jordon a little more time. I fully believe, that if it is the Lord's will, that Jordon will be spared from all long term side effects, and that if we are living in the Lord's will, that is what matters. And we pray that the doctors are all part of this plan, as we know we trust them-with our child's life.
We know that with an increase in tumor size, there is a great chance that there is residual disease. If this is the case then after the final maintenance treatment, there is a possibility of relapse. Therefore, after the scan on the 31st, if it shows activity, Jordon will need a surgical biopsy. If the disease is still present, Jordon will proceed with a bone marrow transplant. Prayer is powerful, and we have received miracles before so we ask that you please pray for any cancerous tumor to miraculously be gone and stay gone!
The doctors are hopeful, and Jordon is still going to get to ring that bell on the 26th! He wants his family and friends to join him, if possible.
We love you all, and thank you for reading.
Below is another song I would like to share. I was unable to upload video but you should be able to click on the link.
